Numerical Simulation of Pollutant Dispersion from Point Source in an Urban Area
نویسنده
چکیده
In this paper, pollutant dispersion from point source was investigated numerically in an urban area. Numerical simulations were carried out using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) models. The CFD models used for the simulation were based on the steadystate Reynolds-Average Navier-Stoke equations (RANS) with κ-ε turbulence models. A gas pollutant was emitted from a point source within the wake region behind the building model. The accuracy of these simulations was examined by comparing the predicted results with wind tunnel experimental data. Results indicated that there is a good agreement between the numerical simulation and the wind tunnel experiment for both wind flow and concentration diffusion. The results of this work can help to improve the understanding of mechanisms of and simulation of pollutant transport in an urban environment.

The aim of this study is to investigate the problems caused by discharge of polluted air from tunnels into the environment with a specific focus on residential areas. In city tunnels, portal or stacks, pollutant management is a big challenge. Nowadays, air quality management, particularly in urban tunnels, is considered as a part of the ventilation system design. The goal is to see the environm...

Air pollution in urban environments has serious health and quality of life implications. A wide variety of anthropogenic air pollution sources increase the levels of background air pollutant concentrations, leading to the deterioration of the ambient air quality. Principal sources of urban air pollution are vehicular traffic, industrial activity and in general fossil fuel combustion, introducin...

متن کاملCFD simulation of near-field pollutant dispersion in the urban environment: A review of current modeling techniques
Near-field pollutant dispersion in the urban environment involves the interaction of a plume and the flow field perturbed by building obstacles. In the past two decades, micro-scale Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation of pollutant dispersion around buildings and in urban areas has been widely used, sometimes in lieu of wind tunnel testing. This paper reviews current modeling technique...
